Optimizing Nursing Terminology for Mental Health and Substance Use Care. – Implementing participatory design and scenario planning as methodological approach.
Kort beskrivelse av prosjektet
Documenting in free text is still more common than using structured terminology such as the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) in mental health and substance use treatment. This makes it difficult to generate data for quality improvement and to maintain an overview of patients’ needs and treatment plans. In ICNP, there is a lack of structured terminology within mental health and substance use that accurately describes patients’ challenges without reinforcing stigma. This project aims to develop nursing terminology for mental health and substance use care through a participatory design (PD) approach. Through PD and scenario planning, the project will generate additional concepts for standardized nursing terminology. New ICNP terms will be developed through a review of literature, analysis of medical records, scenario planning, and workshops involving nurses and patients/users.
