“To lead and to be led. Registered nurses’ leadership close to older adults in municipal home healthcare”
Kort beskrivelse av prosjektet
Municipal home healthcare (HHC) is facing challenges, including increasing care needs combined with a decline in the working-age population. Registered nurses (RNs) are leaders in the direct care of older adults, and their leadership can influence both patient safety and quality of care.
Leadership theories and models are abundant. Despite this, there are no established leadership theory or model developed especially for the RNs in HHC. In this project the phenomenon of leadership close to older adults is defined by leading in the direct care of older adults, next of kins and care staff. The overall aim of this Ph.D. project is to explore RNs’ leadership close to older adults in municipal HHC, with the purpose of expanding the knowledge base.
The phenomenon is explored through three studies, accompanied by an extended summary. Empirical data is generated from (1) participating observations with RNs in HHC, (2) individual interviews with RNs working in HHC and (3) group interviews with care staff in HHC.
