Digital learning and tools

Whether your study programme is campus-based, session-based or online, digital learning and tools will be an important part of your studies. This page provides information about training, equipment and different digital tools used at Nord.

As a student, you will be required to use a wide range of platforms and tools during your studies. The Center for Technology and Learning (KOLT) can help you get started.

In autumn 2020 KOLT offers a webinar on digital learning:

The webinar provides information about tools such as Canvas, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Teams and Inspera.

WiFi

Get online using the wifi network at Nord, Eduroam.

Equipment

Whether digital learning comprises a small or significant part of your studies, it is important to have the correct equipment. All students should have access to:

  • ​PC/Mac/tablet, with internet access
  • Headset
  • Web camera

Canvas

Canvas is an e-learning platform, for communication with lecturers and fellow students. In Canvas, you can see course literature lists, notices from lecturers, lecture notes and more.

It usually takes about 24 hours are completing your semester registration before you can access Canvas. Use the same username and password that your created while activating your student account.

Zoom

Zoom is one of the most widely used tools in online teaching.


In order to use Zoom, you need to create a user account (not your student account). 

Microsoft 365 with Teams

As a student at Nord, you have access to Microsoft 365 (Office), free of charge. This includes the desktop version with Word, Excel,​ PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive and Teams.

Teams is a tool for communicating and collaborating with fellow students and lecturers.


The Office license includes​ 1 TB of space in OneDrive.

Inspera

Many of the examinations at Nord University use the digital examinations system Inspera. 

Inspera can be used for digital onsite examinations, summative assignments such as take-home examinations, projects, bachelor and master theses, as well as grading and oral and practical examinations.
