Semester start

First module ENT102L (Experience of Nature) starts with a lecture Tuesday August 21th 0830, and last to 1500. Room: to be advised.
Due to a waiting list you have to meet up the first lecture to secure admittance to the course even if you are already registered.

Participation

Lectures and excursion/fieldtrips are compulsory, 20% absence is accepted on daytrips and lectures, while overnight trips, August 29 - 31 in ENT102L and October 2 – 5 in ENT105L are compulsory to pass the modules.

Biosciences - Master

WELCOME TO THE MASTER OF BIOSCIENCES
 
All master students to the Bioscience study programme have common orientation weeks in Bodø from 20 - 31 August. These two weeks will be used for the course BI300F Scientific Communication and Researh Methodssafety course and to get to know eachother. If you are a new international master student, you are also welcome to join the orientation week from 12 - 17 August. See detailed information and schedule below.

Every day from 12:00-13:00 in the week before Orientation week 
(Monday 6. August - Friday 10. August), you can meet a representative for your study programme. Meet at Velkomsten, room A134 at the A-entrance of the university.

The class will be divided into three different groups.

Group 1
    • 08:30-11:00 Safety at Sea Course.
      Meet at the university's main entrance. FBA student Lina will meet you there. The safety course will be held at the Faculty research station in Mørkvedbukta (20 minute walk from campus). Here you will get an introduction to the research station, as well as theoretical and practical safety course. You will make use of the course later in your studies going on excursions with our research vessel "Tanteyen".
    • 11:00-12:00 Complimentary snack in the shelter ("Gapahuk") in Mørkvedbukta.
Group 2
    • 09:00-10:30 Hiking to Hunstadtoppen.
      Meet biology student José de Pool at the main entrance of Nord University. Snack and drink is included. Wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the weather.

      Hunstadtoppen (218 m above sea level) is a popular hiking destination. With just a little bit of effort, you can enjoy a great 360 degree view from the top. The hike is approximately 4 km in total and goes along a well marked path. After Hunstadtoppen the hike continues to the research station in Mørkvedbukta.
    • 11:00-13:00 Safety at Sea Course. The safety course will be held at the Faculty research station in Mørkvedbukta (20 minute walk from campus). Here you will get an introduction to the research station, as well as theoretical and practical safety course. You will make use of the course later in your studies going on excursions with our research vessel "Tanteyen".
Group 3 International students from outside EU/EEC
    • 09:00-12:00 Registration at the police station.
    • 13:00-15:15 Safety at Sea Course.
      Meeting point: 13:00 outside Plantasjen (garden centre), close to the bus stop "Mørkved" (bus nr. 4 from downtown Bodø). Our student Lina will meet you outside Plantasjen. The safety course will be held at the Faculty research station in Mørkvedbukta (20 minute walk from campus). Here you will get an introduction to the research station, as well as theoretical and practical safety course. You will make use of the course later in your studies going on excursions with our research vessel "Tanteyen".

Instruction will begin on Wednesday, August 15, at 12 p.m. in Stein Rokkan (A2), with an introduction meeting. (If you are for any reason unable to attend and require the material sent to you, contact us some days in advance on english@nord.no.) At this meeting you will be introduced to your instructors and given important information about the structure of the programme, course options, schedules, reading lists, nature of assignments, study trip, attendance requirements, and expectations regarding conduct.

For the Fall Semester 2018, the courses are British Studies and English Language and Linguistics, followed in the Spring Semester 2019 by American Studies and Research and Writing. Week 45 features a study trip to the Norwegian Study Centre at the University of York, England. It is important to be aware that class attendance is mandatory.

You are expected to have access to the required texts and read the relevant material before each class meeting. Since teaching begins quite early, in Week 35, we recommend that you begin planning your studies some weeks before the semester begins. The required texts should be available in the bookshop early in August. (If you plan to read over the summer, you will find reading lists appended to the course descriptions available on our web pages: http://www.nord.no/en/studies/programmes-courses/find-programmes-courses/2018h/Pages/3EN.aspx).
