Astri Dankertsen's research focuses on Sámi, Indigenous and gender issues, youth, northern/circumpolar communities, urban indigenous communities, reconciliation, identity, postcolonial theory and theories of affect and emotions. Her work is primarily qualitative, focusing on interviews and participant observation. She has published on various issues related to the Indigenous Sámi people.
