Friday 25th of June 2021, Nord University and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in Ukraine did a digital signing of a framework cooperation agreement for join supervision of PhD candidates.

Many projects

The cooperation between Ukraine and Nord university goes all the way back to 2003 when the program for retraining of military personnel returning to civilian life started. This is a program that has been expanded and the model that has been developed within this program will now be used as a standard with the public administration of Ukraine.

The cooperation between Nord university and Ukraine was reinforced by the following projects, which have taken place or are currently running:

  • Retraining and social adaption of military officers/veterans and their family members (2003 – 2022)
  • Norwegian – Ukrainian education and research cooperation in the field of sustainable management, Tavrida National University (Crimea) (2011 – 2014)

NUPRE also includes the development of a joint PhD training model, joint courses, workshops and seminars, research proposals and joint articles in peer-reviewed journals.

International Center

In addition to this, the Ukrainian – Norwegian Center for International Education and Research in the Area of Public Sector Economy and Finance was established on May 23rd 2019. The center is a link between academia and practice in the field of public sector economy with focus on accounting, budgeting and finance. It actively involves relevant university members into its activities. The goal has also been to contribute to the harmonization of international education on a Master, as well as on a PhD level.

The original framework agreement on joint supervision of PhD candidates between Nord University and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was about to run out in June of this year. Today’s ceremony was therefore to renew this agreement, as well as sign coutelle-agreements for two PhD students.

The term "cotutelle" originates from France and has the meaning of "co-tutoring". Generally, cotutelle is structured as an individual agreement on joint supervision on the doctoral degree level signed by two cooperating institutions, the PhD candidate, and the candidate's supervisors. The cotutelle agreement regulates enrolment, supervision, and evaluation of the candidate's doctoral degree dissertation. In the end, the candidate receives diplomas from both partner institutions.
