Guidelines for students:
Purpose: The guidelines are developed to ensure responsible and ethical use of generative artificial intelligence in studies and learning processes at Nord University.
Scope: The guidelines is designed to apply to all students at Nord University. In this context, the term "study" includes everyone participating in learning activities conducted by Nord University.
Preliminary Provisions:
- The student is responsible for familiarising themselves with the regulations and guidelines on exams and cheating at Nord University.
- The main rule is that if a student creates an assignment using generative AI and submits it wholly or partially as their own work, it is considered cheating.
- Unless otherwise stated in the exam assignment or other assignment text, it is permitted to use generative AI solutions as a discussion partner and for language editing in submissions.
- Exam assignments or other assignment texts must include information on whether it is permitted to use generative AI to formulate the response.
Information Security:
- When using generative AI, the applicable regulations and guidelines for information security and privacy must be followed, including students' responsibility for privacy protection in writing assignments.
- Generative AI solutions should not be used on information and data that require protection in processing and storage. Protected information and data may include personal data, trade secrets, or copyright-protected material.
Learning Processes:
- When the student uses generative artificial intelligence as part of the learning processes organised by the university, they must use systems approved at the institutional level.
- The student must be able to provide raw data material upon request from supervisors or examiners. The requirement to retain raw data material lasts until the final grade is given.
Use of generative AI as a Source in Academic Work:
- Generative artificial intelligence should not be cited as a credible source in academic work. Text created by generative artificial intelligence must always be verified through other sources.
- The correct use of tools with generative artificial intelligence includes as a discussion partner and for language editing. This should also be described in the methodology section of the submission. The actual response must be prepared by the students themselves with sources.
