Teaching experience: Upper Secondary, High School obligatory and elective English and English Literature, Professional Setting English Training at the Norwegian Police University College. Research Working title: Nationally Mandated Written English Exams and Study Plans - The Effect on Teacher Autonomy and Student Democracy. This study explores how the catch-all nation wide nature of the Upper Secondary (10th grade) English Written Exam may limit teacher autonomy in planning and executing English literature-teaching throughout the entirety of Upper Secondary School. The project consists of three perspectives: how national study plans and the mandates from the Department of Education may run counter to each other, how teachers experience the process of and design of the National Written English Exam(s), and how the most common English Text Books aim to adhere to both the Study Plans/mandates but also prepare pupils for examination. The overall aim of the project is to further professional understanding of the potential conflict between teaching that aims to achieve higher examination grades, and teaching that allows the pupil to express themselves from a personal point of view. Key words: literature didactics, English study plans, exams, written exams, professional praxxis, practical knowledge.
