The purpose of this research project is to provide an increased understanding of risk and emergency management under uncertainty in complex operational environments. The research project aims to examine how uncertainties and risk factors may contribute to coping mechanisms of emergency managers and address the effects of heightened risk perception in response efforts. This qualitative research project applies a case study approach, with a case of radiological and nuclear maritime emergency. Through the complex case and the empirical focus in Arctic maritime setting, this research project will provide further understanding in operative risk management and coping strategies for managing rare events.
