Grounds and appeals

You may request grounds for original grades and reassessed grades. 

Deadline:

• You must request grounds for grades no later than one (1) week after the grade has been published in Studentweb.
• For an oral examination or the assessment of practical skills, you must request grounds for grades immediately after the grade has been announced. 

How to request grounds 
You can request grounds for grades in Studentweb. For group examinations, the student must request grounds individually in Studentweb. For oral examination or the assessment of practical skills, contact the examiner to request​​ grounds. You may also request grounds for grades after an appeal of results to exam@nord.no.

Provision of grounds 
The grounds shall be given in writing and normally within two (2) weeks. For oral examinations or the assessment of practical skills, the grounds may be given orally.

You can appeal grades for written examinations (including school examinations, take-home examinations, portfolio assessments and various theses). 

For examinations where the final grade is assigned based on both written and oral examinations, the appeal may not be submitted until after the final grade has been announced. 

The assessment of oral performance and practical courses or the like, which, by their nature, cannot be reviewed, may not be appealed.

There is an individual right of appeal for group examinations. You cannot submit an appeal on behalf of multiple group members, you must appeal the grade yourself to have your appeal processed. Any change of grade after appeal will only apply to the person who has submitted an appeal in accordance with Section 5-3 (4) of the Act relating to universities and university colleges.

Deadline:
The deadline for an appeal of grades is three (3) weeks after the grade has been announced in Studentweb. 

If you applied for grounds for a grade or submitted an appeal against procedural errors in the question-setting, examination sitting or assessment, the appeal deadline runs from when the grounds have been provided or a decision on the appeal against procedural errors has been made, cf. Section 5-3 (4) of the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges.

How to appeal a grade:
​Appeals are made in Studentweb, under "More" and "Exam ​appeals".

If there is no button for appeals in Studentweb, use this form​ to submit your appeal (provided it is still within deadline).  

How the appeal of a grade is processed:
The appeal of a grade is  normally processed within eight (8) weeks.

The examination answer is forwarded to the Appeals Committee, which consists of two new examiners, at least one of which is external. 

An appeal has three possible outcomes: 

• the same grade, 
• a poorer grade,
• a better grade.

If the new grade differs by two or more grade levels from the original grade, a further assessment shall be made before the final grade is assigned. 

The new grade is final and cannot be appealed, cf. Section 5-3 (7) of the Act relating to universities and university colleges. 

Violation of the Norwegian Penal Code​
The original grade will be designated as invalid under your results in Studentweb and The Diploma Registry.​ The use of documentation with an invalid grade may entail a violation of Chapter 29 of the Norwegian Penal Code on document forgery (Section 361). ​

Appeals against procedural errors in connection with examinations are governed by Section 5-2 of the Universities and University Colleges Act, which states that "a candidate who has taken an examination or test may appeal against procedural errors within three weeks of the date when he or she became or should have become aware of the circumstance on which the appeal is based."

Procedural errors may be circumstances that have had an impact on your performance or its assessment. Examples of this may include errors in the question-setting, examination sitting, or circumstances surrounding the grading. 

If a procedural error has been made, the grading of the examination in question will be revoked.
If possible, a new grade will be assigned, but in many cases a new examination will be arranged with new examiners.
An appeal against procedural errors shall be made in writing and justified. Appeals against procedural errors must be sent via eDialog.
