Zooplankton vertical migration is Earth's largest movement of animals. The phenomenon occurs daily, and the animals travel vast distances from the ocean depths to the upper layers, sometimes swimming hundreds to thousands of meters. Unbeknownst to most of the public, this spectacle occurs silently, out of sight, and often under cover of darkness. And yet, zooplankton vertical migration is a core concept in marine sciences, crucial to ocean health, and the support system behind many ocean-related economic activities.

ZOOLYS brings zooplankton to the big screen through a 3D animated film. Using game engine and artificial intelligence software, the ZOOLYS film presents marine science research through 3D and audiovisual effects. The main concert hall stage is recreated into the ocean. The public is welcome onstage to experience an immersive exhibit – so you can be zooplankton too.

Experts from academia, industry, and NGOs will be on site to give talks connected to zooplankton. Have a question about the sea? These are the folks to ask. So join us for an evening of science and chill in the ocean we bring to the main concert hall stage.

ZOOLYS is a collaboration by North SciComm, Voldseth Media, Stormen Konserthus and Forskringsdagene 2022. ZOOLYS is an ocean literacy event funded by Forskringsdagene 2022 and recognized as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science Official Programme.
