Innovative Project to Strengthen Future Researchers Across Europe

Innovative Project to Strengthen Future Researchers Across Europe
How can young researchers acquire the skills they need for an exciting and varied career? The EU-funded project METEOR aims to find the answer.

Through collaboration, international networks, and innovative learning, the project will provide PhD candidates with the tools they need to succeed.

METEOR (Methodologies for Teamworking in Eco-Outwards Research) brings together 13 international partners from 12 countries, including leading universities and research institutes.

The goal is to strengthen doctoral education and better equip researchers to meet societal challenges.

"This is an extremely exciting project! We will survey doctoral education in 12 countries to find the best solutions," says Professor Anne Marit Valle, project manager at Nord University.

Through digital resources, learning communities, and summer schools, participants will develop interdisciplinary skills such as teamwork, communication, intercultural competence, and entrepreneurship. These are important both in academia and in the workforce.

The project will provide benefits on multiple levels. PhD candidates will have better job prospects, institutions can attract more talents, and the job market will gain employees with advanced skills.

The involvement of Nord university shows that our academic environment is internationally recognised.

"Everyone is highly engaged in collaboration and development. The involvement of Nord University shows that our academic environment is internationally recognised," Valle says.

The EU has allocated 30 million NOK to the project, with over three million going to Nord University.

METEOR also aims to influence education policy and research strategies at the European level, as well as promote mental health among researchers.

METEOR is not just about research – it's about people. By connecting different fields and cultures, new ideas and solutions are created.

"This is a unique opportunity to network and collaborate across borders," says Valle.

"With METEOR, tomorrow's researchers will have a solid foundation for an exciting career – whether in academia, industry, or the public sector. The project shows that collaboration is the key to innovation and development," she says.
