"Today, we received the sad news that one of our students, Kaisa Wiens, was found deceased after a hike in Moskenes in Lofoten. She is a student at a university in Canada and was on an exchange programme in Levanger. Our thoughts now are with the family, fellow students, friends, and other relatives of the student," says Rector Hanne Solheim Hansen.
Kaisa Wiens was reported missing on Friday evening after not returning from a hike. The student was found deceased after an extensive search operation.
According to the police, the deceased was found in steep terrain, and they have no information to suggest anything other than this being a tragic accident.
Nord University has established an emergency response team and is in contact with the police to assist where possible. The university is also in dialogue with the student’s home institution.
"Now our most important task is to take care of fellow students and employees who are affected by this tragic event. We have established a meeting place in Levanger for those who wish to gather with other students and staff. Affected employees and students will receive information about the meeting place."
