The High North Center for Business and Governance at Nord University is now accepting nominations for the prestigious High North Hero Award 2025.
This annual recognition honors individuals, organizations, or companies that have made significant contributions to highlighting or developing the High North (Arctic region).
The award, which includes a prize of 50,000 NOK (approximately USD 5,500), will be presented during the High North Dialogue Conference in Bodø, Norway on March 25-27.
– We seek candidates who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing and promoting the Arctic region. Residency in the Arctic is not a requirement for nominees, says Jan-Oddvar Sørnes, Acting Director of the High North Center.
The most recent recipient, Dr. Lawson W. Brigham, was honored in 2024 for his groundbreaking contributions to Arctic maritime policy and lifelong commitment to polar research and governance.
The winner will be selected by an international committee including representatives from prestigious institutions such as Arctic Frontiers, Brown University, Offshore Norway, Institute of the North, Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center Arctic Initiative, The Arctic Mayors' Forum, and High North News.

Nominees will be evaluated based on their contributions to:
- Business development, societal development, growth, or employment in the High North
- New knowledge about the High North
- Innovation in advancing cooperation in the High North
- Significant impact locally, nationally, and internationally in the High North
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Arctic
- Strengthening collaboration in the High North
About the High North Hero Award
The High North Hero award honors a person, organization or company who has contributed to highlighting or developing the High North.
The prize is organized by the High North Center for Business and Governance at Nord university in Bodø, Norway.
Usually the prize is given out during the High North Dialogue conference in Bodø, but was in 2024 included as part of the merged Arctic Congress Bodø 2024.
