Meet Yati Yati, originally from Indonesia. This autumn she’s joined us at the High North Center. With a passion for Arctic research and a background in tourism innovation, Yati brings fresh perspectives and an eagerness to dive into our key projects.
Here are five questions to get to know her better!
1. Tell us a bit about your background. Where do you come from?
I’m originally from Indonesia, but I came to Norway in 2015 to pursue a master’s degree in Tromsø. After completing my studies, I worked there for a while before beginning my PhD at Nord University in Bodø.
2. What’s your main area of research?
My background is in business, with a focus on innovation in experience-based tourism. My master’s degree centered on business creation and entrepreneurship, and my PhD research dives deeper into the ways we can innovate within the tourism sector.
3. What interested you in joining the High North Center?
I’ve always been interested in the Arctic! The center’s focus on the unique challenges and opportunities for the Arctic region really appealed to me.
4. Are there any projects you’re especially excited to work on?
Yes, I’m involved in projects like InnNord and Young Arctic, as well as ArcBlue. InnNord and Young Arctic are focused on attracting more people to the High North, especially young people. I’m looking forward to events like the High North Young Entrepreneur competition, speed networking, and panel debates. It’s going to be both engaging and impactful.
5. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love being in nature, and Norway is perfect for that! In the winter, I try to ski (though I’m not good at it), and in the summer, I enjoy hiking and camping. Recently, I’ve become a bit obsessed with mushroom picking – especially this autumn! I also enjoy classical music, and I’m learning classical piano and trying my hand at painting. Plenty of projects – and I don’t mind the weather at all!
