Research in Rural Educational Landscapes (REL)

The REL research group focuses on rural educational landscapes. The rural perspective is connected to geography and not necessarily to the size of the school or early childhood education and care (ECEC) facility.

This research group belongs to the Faculty of Education and Arts at Nord University.

The research group seeks to acknowledge the role of the local school or ECEC facility as an important contributor to the development and attractiveness of the local community.

The children’s voices are highlighted in the research. The group also focuses on online learning and the use of digital education tools aiming to develop high-quality models for teaching and learning in rural educational landscapes. The multi-grade classrooms are of particular interest when it comes to developing didactic strategies to acquire better learning outcomes.

Rural educational landscapes are also of interest regarding teachers’ development and the role of the principal. Furthermore, they are important when it comes to interdisciplinary collaboration.
