Sport is one of the world's biggest cultural phenomena and reflects society. Knowledge of sport and society is therefore important in order to understand contemporary opportunities and challenges. We discover various issues related to sport as a phenomenon, and the role and importance of organized sport for society.
The research group sport and society has an interdisciplinary expertise within sport sociology, sport psychology, pedagogy, organization and management. It partly studies sport as a phenomenon, its organization and conditions, and partly its influence on practices and development in society. Specific focus is given to social inclusion/exclusion, equality and equal opportunities for participation, physical activity and health, sports technology and digitalisation, Esports, sustainability, elite sports, sports events and outdoor life.
The group has monthly meetings, where applications for funds and projects, publications, events, communication, networks and projects are discussed, in addition to a professional presentation from one of the group's members. Other activities in the group are three-day writing sessions every semester and other smaller academic and social activities at regular intervals.
External collaborations with, among others: NTNU, Norwegian College of Sports, the NEON network, UiO, Høgskolen innlandet, Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen, International Sociology of Sports Association and European Sociology of Sports Association.
The research group organized an international conference in Bodø 16-18.
