Examples of cheating

Here are some of the most common forms of cheating on exams – which you as a student must of course avoid using.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a form of cheating that involves copying and using someone else's work without acknowledging who produced it and where you found it. This can apply to academic literature, material found on the internet, or lecture notes received from a fellow student. Nord University uses plagiarism detection on all written exam submissions.

Self-plagiarism and Hidden Reuse

If you use text that you have written yourself and previously received credit for in the form of study credits or access to an exam, you must state where you have used the text before and who originally wrote it. You must therefore cite yourself as the source.

Collaboration

Illegal collaboration between exam candidates or groups during an exam is also considered cheating. In home exams, all aids are usually allowed. This does not mean that it is permitted to collaborate on the exam. If it is an individual exam, the answer must be prepared by you alone.

If you still discuss, for example, the exam text with other students, you must ensure that this does not lead to similarities between the answers, either in content, structure, or language. Similarities between answers can lead to suspicion of illegal collaboration with other students on the exam.

ChatGPT/Artificial Intelligence

Generating answers using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as your own answer is considered cheating unless otherwise stated for the individual exam.

Illegal Aids

Having illegal aids available during the exam is considered an attempt at cheating.

For school exams, there will be a check of permitted aids.

For home exams, all aids are generally allowed. However, it is not permitted to collaborate on an individual home exam, as mentioned above.
