Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences

Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, generally known as OST, is the university of applied sciences for the six cantons of Eastern Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. OST has three campuses. Exchange students from Nord University normally attend the campus in the city center of St.Gallen.
  • Academic workload

    A full workload is 30 ECTS per semester.

  • Tuition fee

    No tuition fee for exchange students.

    Number of student places

    2 students per academic year.

  • Housing

    Housing is available through the private market. OST will provide you with an application form.

    Cost of living

    As a student you will need approximately CHF 1700-1900 per month to cover living expenses.

  • Admission requirements

    Students must have completed one year of university level studies, equivalent to 60 ECTS.

  • Students who are EU nationals do not require a visa to enter Switzerland. Students from non-European countries must check the visa requirements and be in possession of the appropriate visa before arriving in Switzerland. For more information, go to: Entry - Switzerland

    Students must register with the local authorities (Einwohneamt) within 8 days and apply for a short-term residence permit (L-Bewilligung für Kurzaufenthalter). For registration, students will need:

    -Valid ID (passport or national identity card)

    -Confirmation of their status as an exchange student

    -1 passport photo

    -Residence permit fees (costs vary from town to town)

    -Possibly rental agreement

    -Possibly proof that they have sufficient finances to pay for their planned stay (generally the equivalent of CHF 2000 a month)

    Students should not forget to deregister when they leave at the end of their stay!

    Health and accident insurance: This is compulsory. Students from the European Union must bring their European Health Card; students from non-European Union countries must have an insurance policy covering sickness, hospitalization and accidents.

    Third-party liability insurance: Students are strongly advised to have adequate liability insurance. In some cases, this is a condition for renting a room/flat.
