Job opportunities

The Bachelor in English provides knowledge and skills that are in demand in the public and private sectors, and in a range of occupations. It can be combined with further studies to qualify students for pedagogical positions. Other relevant career paths include the cultural sector, media, management and tourism.

Further education

Graduates qualify to apply for admission to further education within professional/pedagogical studies, as well as a range of Master degree programmes.

Study abroad

Students are encouraged to go on an international exchange during the third year of this programme, either to one of Nord University¿s partner institutions or through one of the university¿s exchange programmes.

This programme is open to international students at Nord University. Please note that excellent English language skills are expected from students, ideally exceeding the formal minimum requirements.

First lecture

Compulsory orientation meeting for all international students Monday August 12. See Programme below.
English classes begin during week 35. Please see schedule in TimeEdit. 

 

Mandatory attendance

English classes have an 85% attendance requirement. This means that you have to come to
class unless you have a very good reason not to, such as illness. Please notify your teacher in advance if you will not be attending class on a given day.

Study trip

The English Department invites all Bachelor in English students to attend a one-week study trip to the Norwegian Study Centre, University of York, UK. Details will be distributed during our introduction meeting. The trip or its equivalent assignment is an obligatory component of British Studies.

Sunday August 11:

18:00   Pre-study barbeque at the University Backyard

The student's welfare organisation "Studentinord" is hosting a BBQ party for all new students outside the main canteen, where the Rector and Deans at Nord University will be the Head Chefs for the evening and serve food;) This is an exciting event to meet new students.


Monday August 12:

  • 10:00-15:00  Compulsory orientation meeting

    The International Office at Nord University is holding this useful meeting for all new international students.  
Tuesday August 13:

  • 09:30   Meet & greet in Pennalet 
    Welcome reception - meet fellow students 

  • 11:00   Opening new academic year 2019/20 - Official ceremony
    Outside the main entrance.
    Please note that the ceremony will be held in Norwegian. 

  • 13:15   Opening of new academic year - Faculty of Education and Arts in 
    Auditorium Petter Dass (A14).

  • After the opening – meet your buddy group

Wednesday August 14:

  • 11:00   Free pizza for new students in Pennalet 

  • 12:00   Introduction meeting in Auditorium A3 Matthias Bonsak Krogh

    At this meeting, you will meet your teachers, learn more about Bachelor of English and your fall semester courses, and get some practical information about the study trip to England. You will also have the chance to ask any and all questions about studying English at Nord University. Finally, you will have the chance to sign up for a student guide (“fadder”), which we highly recommend if you are a three-year degree student and new to Bodø.

Thursday August 15:

  • 08:00   Free breakfast hosted by Studentinord for new students in the main canteen

  • 10:30   Tour de Nord    

    Join your buddy group in a scavenger hunt, which takes you around campus. At the end of this not-to-miss event all participants can enjoy themselves with great music and free food.

Welcome committee 
The welcome committee  will ensure that you get the best possible start as a new student in Bodø. The welcome committee is run by senior students, who will ensure that you get the best possible start as a new student in Bodø. They can pick you up from the airport, help you find accomodation and arrange guided tourse in and around Bodø. 

Buddy programme
