The next three semesters you'll continue the program at our partner institution UVMP. Here you'll be introduced to veterinary medicine. Students who complete their bachelor degree in Animal Science, are guaranteed transfer to further studies (3 more years) at the EU-accredited veterinary studies at UVMP.

Job opportunities

Upon completion of the Bachelor degree you will have gained fundamental knowledge in biology with specialisation in veterinary science. If you complete the 6-year veterinary study programme you can work as a private veterinarian, for food safety authorities and within the fields of consultancy, reasearch or teaching.

Further education

The study programme qualifies for the following studies: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at UVMP in Kosice, Slovakia and MSc in Biology and Aquaculture at Nord University (additional mathematics and statistics may be necessary).

Study abroad

Since this is a joint degree with UVMP, studying abroad is a compulsory part of the programme. Upon successful completion of the first three semesters at our faculty, you will continue your studies abroad at UVMP in Kosice, Slovakia.

Practical information

Veterinary approval

To be able to work as a veterinary in Norway with a foreign education, you need to have an authorization from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. More information here. 

Housing

Students organize finding and renting a studio or appartment in Kosice themselves. The price of a private two bedroom appartment is app. 500 € per month, but this varies considering location and standard. The universitety also have student dorms, the cost is 120-150 € per month.

Travel

There are several ways of travelling to Kosice. The city has an international airport 6 km from the city centre. You can fly to Kosice via for instance Prague, Budapest or Vienna. There's also the option of sharing a shuttle or taxi from Budapest. 

Tuition fees

For the three first semesters of the bachelor degree at Nord University, there's only a semester fee of NOK 725,-.

For the three last semesters of the bachelor degree (4th-6th semester) at University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice, Slovakia, students have to pay tuition fees. Students of the Joint Bachelor Degree in Animal Science pay a lower fee than other students at UVMP: ca 2,750 € per semester. 

For the remaining semesters of the degree programme Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (7th-12th semester) the tuition fee is app. 3,500 € per semester.

Kosice is located east in Slovakia, and is an important industrial centre. With its 240 000 inhabitants, Kosice is Slovakias second largest city. Kosice has a well preserved historical city centre, and the main street is surrounded by buildings from different time periods.


University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy

The university has about 1000 veterinary students. 150 attends the English veterinary study programme. These students mainly come from Norway, Sweden, Germany, Israel, USA, Canada and Greece. The students of the Joint bachelor degree in Animal Sience will be in ther own class during their studies at UVMP.
