Ecology

BI123F
The course gives the students an introduction to ecology. Main topics covered are: The Biosphere, Population Ecology, Community Ecology, Ecosystems, Marine Ecology, Conservation Biology, Climate change.
Admission to the course follows the admission requirements of the study program Bachelor in Biology.

On successful completion of the course:

KnowledgeThe student should have knowledge and understanding of:

  • key ecological processes
  • the interactions between organisms and their environment
  • key environmental and ecological issues facing society

SkillsThe student should be able to:

  • demonstrate competence in a range of basic methods used for ecological research (field work and data analysis)
  • Give a short oral presentation about ecological topics

General CompetenceThe student should:

  • have developed an appreciation of the modern scope of scientific inquiry in the field of ecology
  • be able to convey key subject matter such as theories, issues and challenges regarding the field of ecology - both in writing and orally
  • demonstrate awareness of human interactions with natural populations and eco-systems, including habitat modification, pollution, exploitation and conservation
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature.
Compulsory: BSc in Biology
Lectures, lab (compulsory) and field-work (compulsory).
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the universitys quality assurance system.

Compound evaluation, grading scale Letter grades

  • Oral examination, comprises 20/100 of the grade, grading scale Letter grades.
  • Written examination, 4 hours, comprises 80/100 of the grade, grading scale Letter grades.

Pen, ruler and up to 2 bilingual dictionaries.

Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating.
