Cartography and Data Collection
The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:
- Nature Management, One-year Programme
- Nature Management, Bachelor's Programme
Other students must apply for the study programme Geographic Information Systems.
After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- explain the process of map production and the construction of various coordinate systems
- describe the relationship between reality and maps
- explain different data collection methods and their impact on data quality
- describe how GIS tools can be used to compile and visualize digital map data
- present geographic data in a cartographically effective manner
Skills:
- use map applications and paper-based maps for practical navigation in the field
- assess, select, and apply the appropriate data collection method for a given purpose
- process collected data along with other map data for simple analysis and visualization in a GIS tool
General competence:
- plan and execute minor projects involving data collection, analysis, and visualization
- evaluate ethical aspects of data collection and presentation of results
- discuss viewpoints and experiences with others in the field of study
Compulsory Work. Approved/ Not approved. Must be passed prior to the written examination.
Written examination, 3 hours. Grading scale A-F.
Only aids awarded are allowed to be used and pen, ruler and up to 2 bilingual dictionaries
