HUS2005
The course provides an introduction to the subject areas ralated to livestock buildings.

The course provides an introduction to the following subject areas ralated to livestock buildings:

  • building materials
  • building constructions
  • indoor mechanization and logistics
  • economics of investment
  • building regulations
  • computer-aided design (CAD)

The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:

  • Livestock Science, Bachelor's Programme

Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.

Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.

After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • has knowledge of building materials, construction techniques, constructions and regulations for livestock buildings
  • has knowledge of equipment for indoor mechanization of livestock buildings
  • has knowledge of how air flows in a livestock room is affected by the ventilation technique
  • has knowledge of key research and development work in the subject area
  • has knowledge of making building drawings

Skills:

  • has knowledge of various construction principles for livestock buildings and be able to discuss choice of construction methods
  • can compose and evaluate alternative mechanization lines
  • can plan and dimension ventilation in livestock buildings
  • can draw buildings using computer-aided design (CAD)

General competence:

  • have insight into alternative building and mechanization solutions for animal husbandry and can discuss solutions with professionals in the industry
  • has expertise in how the choice of materials and ventilation affects the indoor climate in farm buildings
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory
Lectures, exercises and excursions. The trips goes to companies, suppliers or farms that are relevant to issues we work with in the course.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment

  • Work requirement 1 - Approved at least 75% of defined mandatory activities, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale approved/ not approved. Must be passed prior to submission of the written examination.
  • Work requirement 2 - Drawing of a farm building using CAD software, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale approved/ not approved. Must be passed prior to submission of the written examination.
  • Written examination, 4 hours, comprises 100/100 of the grade, letter grades.

Written school exam: Pen, ruler, up to 2 bilingual dictionaries and calculator

Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating.
