Internship in Livestock Science

Internship in Livestock Science is an elective course for students of the bachelor's degree in Livestock Science. Here, the student will have the opportunity to participate in the daily work of a company, institution, or organization, and in that way gain relevant work experience. After the internship, the students participating in the course must share and discuss their experiences with fellow students and subject teachers through an experience seminar.
Internship is an elective course that gives the student the opportunity to obtain practical work experience from a business, institution, or organization, who has its business focus within an area that is relevant for the study programme. This will give the student the possibility to combine experiences from the work sphere with studies in a systematic manner, and in due time it might facilitate the transition from student life to working life. The student himself/herself is responsible for establishing contact with a potential business, institution, or organization.

The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:

  • Livestock Science, Bachelor's Programme
Passed a minimum of 90 ECTS credits in the field of study prior to the start of the formal work with HUS2012.

After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • has knowledge of the practice's core activities and its overall organization and objectives
  • has knowledge about the internship's history, tradition, individuality and place in society
  • is familiar with the research and development work in which the internship is involved

Skills:

  • can apply professional knowledge acuried in the study to real work tasks in the internship and make informed choices
  • can reflect on own professional practice during the internship and adjust this under supervision
  • can find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter, and present this to highlight a relevant issue
  • can master relevant professional tools, techniques and forms of expression

General competence:

  • has insight into professional ethical issues relevant to agriculture
  • can communicate relevant subject matter, as well as experiences and key learning points from the internship to staff and student colleagues
  • an exchange views and experiences with others in the field and thereby contribute to the development of good practice
  • can develop a good relationship with colleagues and contribute to the working community in a positive way
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal. Costs related to internships may occur.
Elective

The student participates in the day-to-day work in the business, and in that way will gain relevant experience from the agricultural industry.

In addition, the learning activities will consist of participating in a seminar, writing a report and giving presentations to student colleagues and work colleagues.

Study programs are evaluated annually by the students through course and study program surveys. These evaluations are part of Nord University’s quality assurance system for education.

Composite assessment: All the parts described below must be approved in order to receive a final grade in the course.

  • Compulsory participation in a seminar, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale approved / not approved
  • 2 assessment tasks consisting of a written internship report and an oral presentation, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale approved / not approved
  • Professional practice, comprises 100/100 of the grade, grading scale passed/ not passed
