The main focus of this course is to introduce the student to important values, norms, and rules in sports and elite sports, as well as to discuss and reflect on relevant issues related to the role and function of sports in society.
The main focus of this course is to introduce the student to important values, norms, and rules in sports and elite sports, as well as to discuss and reflect on relevant issues related to the role and function of sports in society. The course aims to create an understanding of the path to a future career in elite sports and a job in a sports-related context. Historical and current challenges in sports will be central topics. Through this course, students will gain a fundamental understanding of what, how, and why sports science as a field can be valuable in relation to holistic performance, health, and societal development.

KNOWLEDGE 

  • Have knowledge of sport in a historical, cultural and social context in modern society.
  • Know the value base of sports, norms and rules in children's, competitive, recreational, and elite sports.
  • Knows important sociological perspectives in sports at an individual and group level.

SKILLS 

  • Can reflect on own sports practice in light of the role of sport in society
  • Can apply social science across various sporting disciplines and perspectives, as well as utilize this knowledge to solve practical and theoretical issues relevant to society and sport

GENERAL COMPETENCE 

  • Can exchange views and experiences with others with a background within the subject area and contribute to developing good professional practice through this.
  • Can convey specialist material to illuminate a problem
In addition to the semester fee and course literature, it is assumed that students provide their own laptop computer.

Organisation of teaching activities:

The course will consist of 100% online lectures with connected tasks and tests

The programme of study is annually evaluated by the students through course evaluations and study programme evaluation. The evaluations are part of the university's quality assurance system.

Overall Assessment

Oral Exam (MU): Oral school exam, 30 minutes, based on portfolio submissions. Graded assessment. Accounts for 100/100.

Portfolio (MA):

The portfolio consists of two individual written subject texts, which are assessed as a whole.

Assessed as pass/fail.

Course Requirements (AK):

  • 3 individual subject texts must be approved to receive a final grade in the course.
  • 2 presentations must be approved to receive a final grade in the course.

Mandatory Participation (OD):

80% attendance in all teaching sessions. Mandatory participation must be approved to receive a final grade in the course. Counts 0/100.

All examination support materials allowed

Exception: Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating
