Physiology and Physical Abilities in Sport Science

IDR2014
Based on research-based knowledge, the course will provide a critical and fundamental introduction to the physiological adaptations that may occur with long-term training. The focus will be on adaptations related to endurance training, strength training, and explosive training, as well as distinctions between continuous and interval-based sports

Admission to the Bachelor in Sport Science, admission to the course as an exchange student at Nord University, or admission as a single-course student subject to available spots.

The admission requirement is Higher Eduation Entrance Qualification.

Applicants who do not have Higher Education Entrance Qualifications and are 25 years of age or older may apply for admission based on their prior learning and work experience. Contact our Admission Office for more information.

Knowledge

The student:

  • Possesses broad knowledge of the various physiological adaptations that occur as a result of long-term endurance training.
  • Has broad knowledge of the physical demands required in a selection of continuous and interval-based sports.
  • Is able to integrate knowledge from relevant physiological theories to analyze physical fitness and performance capacity.

Skills

The student:

  • Can apply knowledge of physiology and physical factors to discuss training-induced effects on endurance in continuous and interval-based sports.
  • Can discuss adaptations that occur in physical characteristics when the training load is sufficiently high.
  • Can critically examine how different types of training loads influence various physiological properties.

General Competence

The student:

  • Has insight into the key physical characteristics required in a selection of continuous and interval-based sports.

No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.

Exception: Students with citizenship from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must pay tuition fees.

Tuition fees for international students

In addition to the semester fee and curriculum literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop computer at his disposal.

Mandatory course

Theoretical and practical course

Weekley lectures
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.
