Research methods for Game Studies

MET1003
The course provides basic training in research methods and ethics relevant for games and entertainment technology.
The course provides students with fundamental training in scientific theory, methods, and ethics, emphasising their application within games and entertainment technology. It introduces techniques for collecting and analysing research data, serving as a foundational course for Game Lab 6 - Capstone Project, through developing a design science research project plan. Additionally, the course includes practical exercises that address research problems, formulation of research questions, theoretical frameworks, data collection and analysis, and academic writing.

Mandatory
Lectures, workshops, team work, tutoring and individual studies
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Teaching activity

  • Work Requirements - 4 assignments, approved / not approved

Exam

  • Portfolio (Group of 2-3 persons or individual delivery), composed of work requirements that serve as a project plan for the Capstone project
