Fish and Wildlife Management

An introduction to the biology of deer and the management of these species in Norway, as well as the management of rivers and lakes with a focus on freshwater fish and anadromous species.
The course provides an introduction to deers biology and management of these species in Norway. It also provides an introduction to issues that are relevant to the management of rivers and lakes The connection between practical management and legislation is particularly emphasized.

The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:

  • Nature Management, One-year Programme
  • Nature Management, Bachelor's Programme

Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.

Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.

After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • have knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • can carry out various methods of registration and sampling
  • have knowledge of selected species of freshwater fish, anadrome species and deer wildlife

Skills:

  • be able to plan, implement, document and apply necessary parameters to create file plans and / or plans for deer and fish

General competence:

  • can safeguard health and safety and the enviroment in their work.
  • can use excel for simple calculations.
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory
Lectures, submissions, teamwork and field trips.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment.

Mandatory participation. Approved/ Not approved. Must be passed prior to the oral exam.

Oral examination - individual, comprises 100% of the grade, grading scale A-F.

Norway's laws and other collections of laws that only contain legal texts and regulations. Special edition of laws and regulations and pen, ruler and up to 2 bilingual dictionaries.

Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
