Clinical Practice: Patients with Acute, Critical or Chronic Diseases part 2: Specialist Health Care Services
The student shall gain competence in systematically observing, assessing, deciding on, implementing and documenting appropriate nursing measures regarding the patient group. The student will further develop their skills in communication, interaction and reflection on ethical issues and develop their ability to see connections and understand complex and complicated patient conditions and clinical pictures.
If the supervised professional training course PRA2035 was completed at a medical ward, PRA2036 must be completed at a surgical ward and vice versa.

PRA2035 Supervised professional training studies - People with acute, critical and chronic illnesses, Part 1, Specialist health service.
In the event that a pass grade has not been achieved for the period of supervised professional training, the period of supervised professional training must be repeated before the student is able to proceed to other periods of supervised professional training.
The course must have been passed before the start of the eighth semester
It is expected that the student:
Knowledge
- Can demonstrate and communicate broad knowledge of the most common diseases (in the current ward), symptoms, pharmacology/medications, examination and treatment in a clinical pathway
- Can demonstrate understanding and express knowledge of the comorbid patient's health condition and how it is affected by acute, chronic and/or long-term illness
Skills
- Can demonstrate progression in independence and administer nursing care to a group of patients by systematically observing, assessing, implementing, evaluating and documenting appropriate nursing interventions
- Can make reports and lead medical rounds, and delegate tasks when appropriate
- Can demonstrate skills in the practice of pre-, per- and post-operative nursing when applicable
- Can quality assure and perform medication management in a professionally responsible manner
- Can perform and master the most common procedures in the department, as well as master infection control routines, medical equipment, technology and digital solutions in a professionally responsible manner
- Can practice and master professional communication in interaction with patients, relatives and co-workers.
- Can carry out interdisciplinary, interprofessional and interagency collaboration, and apply knowledge to implement targeted measures to ensure safe transfer of patients between different levels of care
General competence
- Demonstrates an increasing ability to think critically, and identifies and reflects on ethical and legal challenges in nursing practice.
- Is able to reflect on his/her own nursing identity, as well as his/her own and others' nursing practice, and shows willingness and commitment to develop and adjust his/her own nursing competence under supervision.
- Can demonstrate responsibility, commitment and follow professional ethical guidelines in meetings with patients, relatives and co-workers
Practice the nursing profession during supervised professional training under the supervision of nurses who are familiar with the learning outcomes of the course and who will assess the student’s achievement of these.
The student will perform tasks relating to the subject area during the supervised professional training studies.
The student will complete a self-assessment in respect of their own achievement of the learning outcomes.
8 weeks of supervised professional training in the specialist health service.
SPT - Examination: The student will practice the profession of nursing and their achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed throughout the process. In the event that there is a risk that the student will not pass, the student must be notified in writing at the time of the interim assessment or at least three weeks before the final assessment is due to take place, any shortcomings must be specified and documented and the student must be given the opportunity to work on these up until the final assessment.
An accurate assessment can be ensured through collaboration between the placement supervisor and the lecturer based on clear learning outcomes for which the student will also have the opportunity to assess themselves.
The following requirements must be met in order to pass the period of supervised professional training: 90% attendance during the supervised professional training
