Pathology, Pathopysiology and Pharmacology
The course is medical-scientific and provides an introduction to pathology, disease theory and pharmacology in somatics, pediatrics and geriatrics.
Pathology includes anatomical changes in disease and general disease mechanisms.
Disease theory includes causes of disease (etiology), disease mechanisms, symptoms and signs.
Pharmacology is the doctrine of medicines.
Knowledge
Can describe pathophysiological processes that lead to acute, long-term illness and complex disorders.
Has broad knowledge of somatic diseases and can explain their causations, disease processes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, prevention and convalescence.
Can explain mechanisms of action of drugs included in the course and be able to explain their most common effects, side effects and interactions.
Skills
Can apply professional knowledge to identify symptoms, see causations and be able to implement and justify assessments and measures.
Can apply knowledge of general pharmacology, of effects and side effects of drugs to patients
General competence
Have insight into illness and disorders in relation to life course, including pediatrics and geriatrics.
Has insight into social and epidemiological conditions related to health promotion and disease prevention work

AK - Work requirements i group must be approved before recieving final grade
SK - Individual written school exam. 5 hours.
