Nursing to Children and Adolescents in a Preventive and Health Promoting Perspective

SYK2012
The course focuses on preventive and health-promoting nursing for children, adolescents and their families.
The course focuses on preventive and health-promoting nursing for children, adolescents and their families. Mental health conditions of children and adolescents, pregnancy or postnatal periods, personal illness/disability and familial conditions are highlighted. The student gains insight into and understanding of the complexity and challenges that the target group experiences in everyday life. Through project work and lecturers from the profession, students can gain supervised professional training experiences.

The following courses must be passed before starting this course: All courses in the first academic year

SYK1010 Communication, Psychology, Pedagogy and Sociology.

PRA1026 Supervised practical training studies - Basic nursing, municipal health service SYK2010 Practical nursing skills, part 2,

SYK2008 Pathology, disease theory and pharmacology,

SYK2009 Nursing people with acute, critical and chronic illnesses PRA2035 Supervised professional training studies - People with acute, critical and chronic illnesses, Part 1, Specialist health service.

The course must have been passed before the start of the eighth semester.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Have knowledge of the normal development and specific needs of children and adolescents, including knowledge regarding participation and rights
  • Have knowledge of public health, preventive and health-promoting factors in relation to the physical and mental health of children and adolescents
  • have knowledge of interprofessional cooperation in order to facilitate a coordinated, comprehensive and coherent service provision.
  • Have knowledge of psychosocial risk factors and health-related risk behaviour among vulnerable groups of children and adolescents and their families
  • Have knowledge of the significance of social inequality in relation to the upbringing of children and adolescents
  • Have knowledge of pregnancy and postnatal care
  • Have knowledge of needs and facilitation relating to children with congenital disabilities or disabilities acquired at an early age
  • Have knowledge of project work

SKILLS

  • Can apply knowledge relating to children’s and adolescents’ need for treatment and/or services and can ensure their participation and rights
  • Can highlight societal health challenges in relation to the families of children and adolescents

General competence

  • Have insight into social and health-related issues, including neglect, violence, abuse, substance misuse and socio-economic problems
  • Can plan and carry out group project work in line with ethical requirements and guidelines
  • Can contribute to innovative thinking and innovation in nursing in relation to children and adolescents
  • Can understand the importance of speaking to children, adolescents and their families about subjects such as neglect, violence and abuse

Compulsory theoretical course

Lectures/online lectures, assignment and coursework requirements in groups.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
