Programme description

If you take an interest in nature, hunting, fishing and/or outdoor life, our one-year programme in nature management may provide you with thorough insight into managing natural resources. The study emphasizes practical understanding of management, introduction to geographical tools and species knowledge within botany and zoology. After completing the course, you can apply directly to the second year of the bachelor's program in Nature management.

Career opportunities

If you choose to continue on our bachelor`s programme in nature management, you will qualify for a variety of positions, such as e.g. in nature management, game and fish management, landscape planning, information work and nature inspection for both private and public organisations and offices.
Higher education entrance qualification. Norwegian language proficiency. This programme is only taught in Norwegian. If you do not meet the Norwegian language proficiency requirements, you do not qualify for admission. View general admission and documentation requirements.
The study programme does not have an option to study abroad.
The one-year programme in nature management is equivalent of the first year of study on the bachelor's programme in nature management. Students may apply for transfer to the bachelor's programme in nature management upon finishing at least 50 of the 60 study credits in the programme.

Upon successful completion of this programme, the student:

Knowledge

  • has basic knowledge of nature and sustainable nature management in Norway
  • has knowledge of basic animal- and plant phylogeny
  • has knowledge of global climate processes with relation to vegetation
  • has knowledge of basic biological topics; ecology, chemistry, cell biology and genetics

Skills

  • has practical knowledge of hunting, fishing and game and fish management
  • can identify various groups of animals within the Norwegian fauna
  • can use digital and analogue map tools for practical navigation in the field and collection of data

General competence

  • is able to account for and communicate basic knowledge of nature

Students should further expect costs to incur in relation to transportation, accommodation and catering related to non-mandatory excursions and field courses.In addition to the semester fee and syllabus literature, it is assumed that students have a laptop with microphone and camera.

Students must purchase their own laboratory coat for use in courses with laboratory exercises.

Please note that we depend on students providing their own car for driving on certain excursions. All driving will be compensated according to the state's mileage rates.
