Akvakulturproduksjon og miljøeffekter

BIO5005

The course provides an overview of aquaculture environment interactions and the environmental consequences of production. Special emphasis is placed on the production of salmonids, and how the environmental effects of this affect management and technology development.

Admission to the course follows the admission requirement in the study program Master in Life Sciences.

Knowledge: the candidate must

  • have a broad knowledge and overview of species in farming and farming practices all over the world
  • have in-depth knowledge of the ecological consequences of aquaculture
  • have in-depth knowledge of the ecological consequences of salmon farming, and how regulations and technology are designed to reduce these
  • have broad knowledge of the ethical challenges for sustainable development related to commercial farming,

Skills: the candidate should

  • be able to apply technical knowledge and relevant information from research and development to practical and / or theoretical issues related to aquaculture and its environmental effects

General competence The student must

  • be able to communicate about the most important issues, challenges and solutions within aquaculture and environmental impact
  • be able to update their knowledge within the subject area, exchange views and experiences and present knowledge-based opinions with others.

Undervisningsform

Online, seminarer, diskusjoner og vurderinger.

Læringsaktiviteter og undervisningsmetoder

Online seminars and group discussions. Teaching is given in two blocks per week.

Emneevaluering

Each student will participate in class discussions, and complete some preparatory exercises, including a review of scientific articles and a class presentation, with an individual report on a specific topic submitted at the end of the course.
