Educated in the Netherlands (MAs in History and Medieval Studies, University of Groningen, 1999) and Scotland (PhD in History and Law, University of Aberdeen, 2004), I worked in academia in the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland, before coming to Nord University in 2019.
My research interests include late medieval and early modern urban, legal, maritime and social history. I have worked on a number of transcription and digitisation projects of historical sources, including the
1641 Depositions and
Aberdeen Registers Online.
My publications include 'Of Laws of Ships and Shipmen'. Maritime Law in Urban Northern Europe (EUP, 2012), Banishment in the Late Medieval Eastern Netherlands.
