Nords Univesrity's rector Hanne Solheim Hansen will be the institutional representative of the alliance for the next six months. She will be chair and host the Governing Board meetings, and promote the actions planned during her mandate period in the alliance.
SEA-EU is a European university alliance for collaboration in education and research in Europe. Nine universities are currently members of the alliance, united by their coastal location and high expertise in the marine and maritime field.
Important netwok
– SEA-EU is one of the most important international networks for Nord University as a whole, says Rector Hanne Solheim Hansen of Nord University.
She has just taken over the role as the leader of the alliance's board. This happened during the board meeting at the alliance's "Governing Week" in Split, Croatia.
– The presidency rotates within the alliance. Nord University will hold it from now until we host the Governing Week in Bodø at the end of May next year, explains Solheim Hansen. She sees significant opportunities for more international collaboration through the alliance, both within research and mobility for students and staff. The alliance allows for exchange programs and larger collaborations in research, innovation, and education.
– This is our first year in the alliance. We have already established beneficial exchange agreements, and have applied for several joint research projects, says Solheim HanHsen.
High activity during Governing Week
The entire week in Split is packed with meetings and networking. Present are rectors and vice-rectors from all participating universities, along with students, project leaders, and other participants in the alliance's working groups.
In the Governing board meeting where Nord obtained the presidency, Nord student Hanna Mary Pettersen also participated as a representative of SEA-EU's student council. She delivered a brilliant presentation to the approximately 70 people in attendance.
Nord University was invited to join the SEA-EU university alliance in 2022. The alliance consists of nine universities with marine and maritime profiles:
- Nord University
- University of Gdansk (Poland)
- Kiel University (Germany)
- University of Western Brittany (France)
- University of Split (Croatia)
- Parthenope University of Naples (Italy)
- University of Algarve (Portugal)
- University of Cádiz (Spain)
- University of Malta
The universities in the SEA-EU alliance aim to strengthen the coastal research and education field, and promote key areas of collaboration such as internationalization, sustainability, digital transformation, openness, and democracy. Nord University's connection to the northern regions is crucial for its role in the alliance.
The initiative to establish such European alliances was launched after an EU summit in Gothenburg in 2017. Today, there are approximately 50 such alliances in Europe, and Norwegian universities are part of a total of ten alliances.
