Student workload

Full-time workload per year
A full-time student workload corresponds to minimum 1600 hours of work per academic year. A full-time workload generates 60 ECTS assuming the student passes all assessment and work practice and fulfils all the other requirements for completion of the course of study.

What is included in the workload?
Student workload includes lectures and other forms of teaching, tutoring sessions, seminars and group work, field work, project work, library work, laboratory work, practice and the student’s own independent work, for example related to the curriculum and required or recommended literature.

ECTS credits
All credits at Nord University are allocated as ECTS credits, according to the European standard and Norwegian guidelines and practice.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) enables students to gain credits for learning achieved through higher education. The provision of ECTS credits is based on the student workload required in order to achieve expected learning outcomes.

A 1600 hour student workload is based on 40 hours a week for a period of 40 weeks per academic year in order to ensure achievement of expected learning outcomes. A regular course module of a scope of 10 ECTS has an expected student workload of 266 hours.
