Open Access journal publishing agreements

Nord University has entered into nationally negotiated Open Access (OA) publishing agreements with several publishers. The agreements include most of the publishers’ journals.

The publishing agreements are negotiated nationally, and institutions choose the agreements they want to participate in. Nord University participates in many, but not all national publishing agreements. If a publisher is not mentioned on this website, Nord University does not have a publishing agreement with it.

General information about the agreements

  • In the traditional subscription model, an institution's subscriptions only include reading access to scholarly literature. As a temporary measure to accelerate the transition to Open Access, so-called publish and read agreements were introduced. These comprehend both reading access (subscription) and that publishers make the published version of scholarly journal articles from authors of participating institutions openly accessible. The publishing fee (Article Processing Charge, APC) is covered in its entirety. As a result of the agreements, Nord's researchers can publish OA in most of the publisher's journals without extra costs. Read more on eligiblity and the process of OA publishing via the agreements in the paragraph «Common for all agreements».

  • Nord University participates in discount agreements with several publishers that give our researchers a discount on the APC when publishing in a gold OA journal. Read more on eligiblity and the process of OA publishing via the agreements in the paragraph «Common for all agreements».

    • The corresponding author must be affiliated with Nord University and the institution must be credited in the publication. Corresponding author refers to the author who is responsible for submission of the article to the journal, and who has been the contact person for the publisher. It is not sufficient to be listed as the corresponding author in the article.
    • Affiliation with Nord University must be registered as early as possible in the process. Preferably, use your institutional e-mail-address; some publishers only use the e-mail domain to verify institutional affiliation.
    • Included journals: Journals must be ranked level 1 or 2 in the channel register of the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir). Journals that are included in publishing agreements are marked with «A» for agreement. The channel register also shows which institutions that participate in the different agreements; Nord University does not participate in all agreements. If a journal is included in an agreement, the channel register's specific information page for the individual journal will show a drop-down list (Show [+]) about institutions that participate in the agreement. Please note that some journals are only included in the agreement with reading access («read-only»); therefore, always double-check with the publisher's title list if publishing for the chosen journal is included in the agreement (follow the link to the title list under «included journals» for the relevant publisher).
    • Licence: Nord University recommends that you choose a CC BY licence; this is in accordance with requirements from several funders. When choosing a more restrictive licence, read carefully through any licencing agreement before signing it; make sure that you do not assign too many rights to the publisher, e.g. the possibility to share your article on commercial social networks like ResearchGate.
    • Publish and read agreements: During the publication process, the publisher will inform you of the possibility to publish Open Access, without extra costs. Choose Open Access when you sign the author publishing agreement. The University Library will confirm your affiliation to Nord University.
    • Discount agreements: Send an application to Nord University's OA Fund when your articles gets accepted for publication. Some publishers require also that you choose Nord University as payer, and/or state the invoice address of Nord's OA Fund (PDF). This is necessary to ensure that the University Library gets notified about the article, can confirm your affiliation with Nord. You can find more detailed information on the workflow for individual publishers below.
