Behaviour and Animal Husbandry
The course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of ethology, the domestication and history of dogs, cats and rabbits and about the natural behavior and needs of these species, their hold, care and breeding.
Development of breeds. A theoretical and practical review of the safe handling of patients in various situations is an important part of the topic. Ethics and animal welfare regarding keeping, breeding, handling and medical treatment of pets
Knowledge
- have knowledge of the natural needs and behaviors of the various animal species, including reproduction.
- have knowledge of the challenges that domestication poses for different animal species
- have knowledge of the holding, care, breeding and handling of healthy animals
- have knowledge of Norwegian legislation regarding animal and animal welfare
Skills
- know how to read animal signals and understand animal behavior in different situations
- know how to handle animals in different situations for the animal's welfare and for the safety of the animal, owner and employee
- be able to prepare and follow up on the stabling of patients

- understand and interpret animal behavior in different situations
- be able to communicate about the profession with other professionals
- be able to reflect on ethical and animal welfare challenges in breeding and keeping pets
