Patophysiology I

The course provides the students with a general introduction to disease processes and seeks to give the student an understanding of physiology versus pathology.
The course provides the students with a general introduction to disease processes and seeks to give the student an understanding of physiology versus pathology. Key topics are inflammation, immunology, hemostasis, circulation, cell damage and cell repair. In addition, students learn basic genetics, about current hereditary diseases and how knowledge of this is used to prevent disease.

For students admitted to the Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing at Nord only.

The student needs to pass BI145 Anatomy and physiology for veterinary nurses before enrolling.

Knowledge

  • has broad and basic knowledge of the main topics of the course: general pathology and genetics
  • the history, research and development of this field
  • of the prevalence of hereditary diseases and preventive measures

Skills

  • masters relevant terminology
  • can apply scientific knowledge of genetics and inheritance to theoretical and practical issues regarding breeding

General Competencies

  • have insight into, and can reflect on ethical and animal welfare consequences and challenges in breeding
  • can exchange views and discuss with other professionals and contribute to the development of good practice
  • can find, evaluate and communicate topics and problems both orally and in writing
No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply. The university require that students have a laptop with internet access.
Compulsory for and only for Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing.
Lectures, group work, seminars. The student needs to be present at campus.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

  • Compulsory participation, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved/ Not approved.
  • Written examination, 5 hours, comprises 100/100 of the grade, grading scale Letter grades.
