Deepen your knowledge of the English language with a specialised course on an aspect of its structure, variation or history.
The course provides an in-depth study of one topic in field of English language and linguistics, such as phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, semantics and pragmatics, social and geographical variation, or history of English.
Compulsory for students in Bachelor of English. The course is also offered as an elective outside of this programme.

KNOWLEDGE

After completing the course, students will be able to:

• demonstrate a mastery of concepts and theories associated with the selected topic

SKILLS

After completing the course, students will be able to:

• locate and evaluate scholarly sources for the selected topic

• demonstrate an ability to read and respond to literature on the selected topic

• undertake writing tasks related to the literature on the selected topic using appropriate concepts and terminology

• update and broaden one's knowledge of the selected topic

COMPETENCIES

After completing the course, students will be able to:

• reflect on and apply concepts from the selected topic to novel facts

• critically evaluate discussions in the media bearing on the selected topic

• communicate the relevance of the selected topic to education, life skills, participation in a pluralistic democracy, and sustainable social development in our own time

• collaborate with other students in planning and carrying out an oral presentation that communicates a research result from the selected topic

No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
Teaching will be in the form of lectures, class activities, and individual and group work between meetings.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys
Compound evaluation, grading scale A-E for pass, F for fail
  • Compulsory participation (OD), min. participation 85%, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale: Approved - Not approved.
  • Group presentation (AK), comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale: Approved - Not approved.
  • Portfolio of three pieces of coursework (MA), comprises 100/100 of the grade, grading scale A-E for pass, F for fail.
