Social and Sustainable Entrepreneurship
This course provides insight to how social and sustainable entrepreneurship can contribute to solve global challenges, such as climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, and social exclusion.
The course discusses what entrepreneurial opportunities for social and environmental entrepreneurship can be, and how they can be identified and created. The course deals with social and sustainable entrepreneurship at different levels, such as business-, community,- and institutional level.
The course also illuminates how entrepreneurs exploit opportunities through mobilizing different types of resources, such as financial, human, physical, nature, and social. The students will apply tools for entrepreneurial action to develop creative proposed solutions for sustainable and social development.
Knowledge:
After the course, the student should have:
- advanced knowledge about entrepreneurship and an understanding of that it exists different types of entrepreneurship with different goals and organization.
- in-depth knowledge and understanding of how social and sustainable entrepreneurship on regional and local level can contribute to solve global challenges.
- advanced knowledge about what entrepreneurial opportunities for social and sustainable entrepreneurs are, and how they can be exploited through resource mobilization.
- knowledge about how theories and concepts such as resource mobilization, entrepreneurial action and scaling impact can be applied to analyze challenges within social and sustainable entrepreneurship.
Skills:
After the course, the student should be able to:
- creatively identify and exploit entrepreneurial opportunities for social and sustainable entrepreneurship.
- critically consider entrepreneurial action for social and sustainable development, and analyze real challenges and barriers for social and sustainable entrepreneurship in an independent way.
- reflect critically upon the effect of social and sustainable entrepreneurship by using different types of tools, such as United Nations (UNs) sustainable goals and triple bottom line.
- use relevant theory and apply tools for entrepreneurial action to independently develop a strategic plan for social and/or sustainable entrepreneurship.
General competence:
After the course, the student should be able to:
- analyze and develop creative solutions to complex and global problems, such as sustainable and social challenges.
- convey results from comprehensive and independent work, and orally use professional expressions within social and sustainable entrepreneurship.
- communicate academic issues, analysis, and proposed solutions to actors in the society that work with developing more sustainable societies and increase social welfare.
- collaborate and coordinate with others in interdisciplinary team to carry out advanced projects.
Assembly-based teaching.
The course presents central concepts and theories in social and sustainable entrepreneurship in lectures. Moreover, the students get presented case from guest speakers with subsequent case exercises. The students should write and present a strategic plan for social and/or sustainable entrepreneurship.
