Course contents:
- feeding means, feeding and feed planning
- breeding and breeding work
- learning theories and behavior
- briefly about the horsesport and business related to horses
The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:
- Nature Management, Bachelor's Programme
- Animal Sciences - Welfare and Production, Bachelor’s Programme
Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.
Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student:
Knowledge:
- has knowledge of the biological conditions that are basis for keeping horse and dog in an ethical and animal welfare-responsible way
- has knowledge of which feeding means that are suited for horse and dog
- has basic knowledge of feeding of and nutrition for horse and dog
- has knowledge of breeding work for the Norwegian horse and dog breeds
- has knowledge of some of the ways in which horses are used in sports and business
- has knowledge of learning theories
Skills:
- can contribute in a discussion about behvioural and welfare needs of horses and dogs
- can lead a professional discussion on relevant professional issues
- can create and asses a simple feeding plan for horse
- can assess/interpret a roughage analysis which is to be used in a feeding plan for horse
General competence:
- can exchange views on what constitutes responsible keeping of horse and dog
- can communicate basic theory of correct feeding of horse and dog
- can communicate basic theory of horse and dog breeding

Elective
Seminars, lectures, excursions, group assignments and assignments for submission.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.
Compound assessment:

- Compulsory participation
Both of the above are evaluated with approved or not approved. Both must be passed in order to attend the written examination.
- Written examination, 3 hours, comprises 100% of the grade, grading scale A-F.
