Basic Chemistry
Knowledge
The student has knowledge of:
- the properties of elements (including the periodic table), salts and molecules
- the rules for naming of compounds in organic and inorganic chemistry
- the most important reaction types in inorganic chemistry (mainly aqueous solutions) and organic chemistry
- the most important biochemical substance classes
Skills
The student is able to:
- calculate reaction yields, concentrations and pH (both strong and weak acids and bases, and mixtures of acids and bases including buffers)
- perform simple laboratory work
General Competence
The student is able to understand that:
- chemistry is a broad comprehensive study
- chemistry is an important basis for understanding biological processes
