Second instruments, piano
The course gives a basic introduction into the use of piano as an accompanying instrument and as a tool in other subjects, such as composing, arranging, ear training and choral work. Emphasis on playing from chord charts/symbols, simple notated/sheet music and by ear.
The course is reserved for students of teacher education in practical and aesthetic subjects for steps 1-13, music.

KNOWLEDGE

The student

  • has insight into work-related physiological principles relating to playing the piano
  • has basic knowledge of piano notation
  • has a basic understanding of accompanying techniques, as well as methods of harmonisation and transposition
  • has knowledge of various didactic methods related to teaching the piano on an elementary level

SKILLS

The student

  • has basic technical and musical skills on the piano
  • can use the instrument in an educational context
  • has a good command of scales and notation
  • has a good command of playing from chord charts
  • has a good command of playing by ear
  • can direct singing in educational settings involving the voice and piano accompaniment
  • can transpose and adapt an accompaniment to the desired genre and target group
  • can plan, conduct and evaluate their own performance

GENERAL COMPETENCE

  • The student
  • can communicate their own musical perceptions and demonstrate the ability to reflect on use of the piano in interplay and in teaching situations
  • has attitudes and knowledge that can help to create a sense of achievement and good community experience with playing, for themselves and others
In addition to the semester fee and course literature, students are expected to provide their own laptop computer.
Practical executive subject.

Group teaching and individual guidance. Practical use of the piano in interaction in different contexts in study and in guided educational practice. Taking charge of group singing with piano accompaniment.

Teacher guidance in a group setting is well suited as far as general and basic skills are concerned. Basic skills should be acquired in accordance with well adapted methodology. In the context of this type of teaching, fellow students play an important role in terms of both supporting and learning from each other.

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Mandatory participation (OD) in lessons, minimum 80%, and in agreed student-led activity. Mandatory participation must be approved in order to take the exam.

Two practical/written coursework requirements (AK), one in each semester. Must be approved before the final course grade can be given.

Practical examination (PE): Grading scale: Pass/fail. Duration: Up to two hours
