Practical Studies I

PRA1000
The students get their first experience from work as a veterinary nurse at a clinic.
Students get an introduction to the working life of veterinary nurses, and the routines in a veterinary clinic.

For students admitted to the Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing at Nord only.

The exam in DYR 1001 and the assessment of the portepolio of DYR1003 must be passed to start the placement.

Knowledge

The candidate

  • Has general knowledge of infection control (aseptics, antiseptics and disinfection), and knows how to apply the knowledge

Skills

The candidate

  • can consider the safety of patients and persons
  • is able to clean and disinfect facilities and equipment.
  • can perform proper hand hygiene.

General competencies

The candidate

  • can establish and maintain a good relationship with other employees.
  • is able to follow defined procedures and instructions.

No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply. The university require that students have a laptop.

The students have to pay for travel and accomodation during the placement period.

Compulsory for and only for Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing.
  • 4 weeks placement periode at a companion animal clinic, under supervision
  • obligatory to participate at seminars before the placement period starts
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Compound assessment, grading scale Passed / Not Passed

  • Compulsory participation - on seminar before pracitcw, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved/ Not approved.
  • Assessment Task - reflection note submitted in Canvas , comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved/ Not approved.
  • Practice, 4 weeks, comprises 100/100 of the grade, grading scale Passed / Not Passed.
