Practical Studies I

Students get an introduction to the working life of veterinary nurses, and the routines in a veterinary clinic.

For students admitted to the Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing at Nord only. 

Students must have passed DYR1001 and the portfolio in DYR1003.

  • Has general knowledge of infection control (aseptics, antiseptics and disinfection), and the practical application.

Skills

The candidate

  • Can consider the safety of patients and persons.
  • Is able to clean and disinfect spaces and equipment.
  • Can perform proper hand hygiene.

General Competencies

  • Can establish and maintain a good relationship with other employees.
  • Is able to work on given procedures and instructions.
No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply. The university require that students have a laptop.
Compulsory for Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing. 
  • 4 weeks placement periode at a companion animal clinic, under supervision
  • obligatory to participate at seminars before the placement period starts
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

The internship period is 4 consecutive weeks, minimum 37.5 hours per week, at a clinic in the Nordic countries, approved by Nord University.

The student must follow the practice clinic's working hours and work regulations.

The student's progression must be documented continuously in the practice handbook, and this, as well as feedback from the supervisor at the clinic, is used as the basis for the assessment scheme (PR). Reference is made to Guidelines for practice for a Bachelor in Animal Care at Nord University.

By registering for the course, the student undertakes to: Comply with the practice clinic's internal regulations. Comply with the duty of confidentiality in the Animal Health Personnel Act and sign a declaration of confidentiality if required by the practice clinic. Collaborate with the practice clinic's contact person, colleagues and customers, and perform the job to the best of your ability. Discuss any needs, problems or concerns with the practice clinic's contact person and / or the university as soon as they arise. Continuously fill in the practice handbook. Inform if the internship is terminated.

  • Assessment Task - reflection note submitted in Canvas , comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved/ Not approved.
  • Practice, 4 weeks, comprises 100/100 of the grade, grading scale Passed / Not Passed.
