Practical Studies II
Students assist basic tasks of veterinary nursing, clinical procedures and laboratory work, as well as prepare and assist in surgical procedures and imaging.
During this second period of practical training, the students will have direct customer contact, communicate with the owners, and take part in the daily routines of the clinic.
For students admitted to the Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing at Nord only.
All previous exams need to be passes to enter this course.
Knowlegde:
- the daily roitines for welcoming customers and patients
- clinical parameters and the normal range of variation
Skills:
- possess the necessary skills to work in the reception and receive calls
- welcome patients and send patients home
- prepare for and assis during examinations and treatments
- be able to take different types of samples, to handle and prepare samples before analysis in house and transfer, analyze, send samples to laboratories and fill in requests.
- do dental care and write dental records
- assist diagnostic imaging procedures
- independently perform the basic clinical procedures like nail trimming, coat trimming, venous blood sampling, placement of venous catheters
- monitor the basic clinical parameters
- know the routines for applying identification marks on companion animals, aninmal passports, documentation of vaccines and health certificates
General competance:
- know how to use and work with digital systems for medical records and other soft wares
- understand, maintain and use instruments for in house analysis
- work according to fixed procedures and instructions
- facilitate, support and assist the workof the veterinarians
- apply theoratical knowlegde of behavior, needs and physiology in the daily routines, both handling animals and communication with the owners
The practice period is 8 consecutive weeks, with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, at a clinic in the Nordic region approved by Nord University. The student is expected to adhere to the work hours and regulations of the practice clinic. The student's progress will be documented continuously in a practice manual, and this, along with feedback from the clinic supervisor, will be the basis for the assessment scheme PR. Upon registration in the course, the student commits to:
The practice period is 19 consecutive weeks, with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, at a clinic in the Nordic region approved by Nord University. The student is expected to adhere to the work hours and regulations of the practice clinic. The student's progress will be documented continuously in a practice manual, and this, along with feedback from the clinic supervisor, will be the basis for the assessment scheme PR. Upon registration in the course, the student commits to:
- Comply with the internal regulations of the practice clinic.
- Adhere to the confidentiality requirements in accordance with Norwegian legislation and sign a confidentiality agreement if required by the practice clinic.
- Collaborate with the practice clinic's contact person, colleagues, and customers, and perform the job to the best of their ability.
- Discuss any needs, problems, or concerns with the practice clinic's contact person and/or the university as soon as they arise.
- Consistently fill out the practice manual and inform if the practice arrangement is interrupted.
