The purpose of the further education is to cover parts of the complex field of palliative care, and to provide competence that is applicable both inside and outside the institution. By improving the services for the patients with incurable disease, we know it will lead to a better quality of life for this patient group. In the face of suffering, this education is based on a care perspective that promotes the idea of ​​charity. This is expressed through the ability to empathize and by providing concrete, practical help. Palliative care is active treatment, nursing and care for patients with incurable disease and short life expectancy. Relief of the patient's physical pain and other troublesome symptoms is central, along with measures aimed at mental, social and spiritual / existential problems.
3-year health or social work education. Applicants with another college or university education can be admitted after special assessment.

Knowledge

  • Has advanced knowledge and understanding of how to provide good relationships, good communication and interactions with the patient, relatives and their families, in early and late stages in palliative care and caring, from a physical, mental, social and spiritual / existential perspective
  • Has advanced knowledge and understanding of the importance of teamwork to facilitate good palliative care and caring for patients and their relatives from a person-centered perspective
  • Has advanced knowledge and understanding of the need for relief of symptoms for the individual patient in the palliative phase and at the end of life, especially in heart disease, kidney disease, non-malignant lung disease, neurological diseases (ALS, MS), disease in children and dementia
  • Has advanced knowledge and understanding of how each individual healthcare professional can take care of the patient's relatives
  • Has advanced knowledge of a holistic reflection model for palliative care

Students are expected to possess a PC with headset and microphone and cover their own expenses for this.

Mandatory Palliative care and caring in a holistic perspective for vulnerable patient groups. Optional specialisation in Master in Clinical Nursing
Lectures, group work, reflection groups, assignments, web-based teaching and group work through digital platforms, self-study.
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course examinations (final evaluation). Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.
