Philosophy of Science and Research Methodology 2 provides a broad introduction to both quantitative and qualitative research approaches and methods. The course provides insight into and experience of how to proceed in planning, implementing, evaluating and disseminating research work.

Knowledge

The student shall possess

  • in-depth knowledge of different research designs and research methods
  • in-depth knowledge of different methods of data collection and analysis of data material
  • in-depth knowledge of how the researcher's position affects the research process
  • in-depth knowledge of the researcher's role and responsibilities
  • in-depth knowledge of aspects of research ethics

Skills

The student must be able to

  • plan and carry out independent research work based on the chosen topic and research question, and place their own research contribution in a national and international context.
  • explain, justify and discuss the choice of research design in accordance with the issue and research questions in their own project.
  • explain, justify and discuss the choice of methods for collecting and analysing the data material.
  • follow ethical guidelines for research and reflect critically on ethical aspects related to their own research work.

General competence

The student must be able to

  • demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on their own and others' research
  • plan, carry out, evaluate and disseminate their own research work
  • contribute to new thinking and innovation in the field
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature.
Compulsory
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment:

Written Assignment - individual methodology assignment. The thesis must be geared towards the student’s own master's project. Form of assessment: Pass/fail. Represents 100/100.

Compulsory participation - 80% attendance, represents 0/100. Assessed as approved/not approved.

This course must be completed and passed before the exam for the "PE323L Master's thesis speech therapy" course can be taken. For students who go on exchange, the corresponding exchange course must be passed.
